Portland Slag Cement (PSC)

It is special blended cement with low heat of hydration. The by-product from a blast furnace, i.e slag is used in the manufacturing of Portland slag cement. It is less expensive as compared to OPC Portland slag cement has less heat of hydration as compared to OPC. A cement is a binder, a substance used for construction that sets, hardens, and adheres to other materials to bind them together. Cement is seldom used on its own, but rather to bind sand and gravel together. Cement mixed with fine aggregate produces mortar for masonry, or with sand and gravel, produces concrete

Advantages

Mascot1
  •     Higher compressive strength – PSC goes on attaining strength even after 23 days.
  •     Low Heat of Hydration due to presence of Slag which eliminates the tendency of cracking
  •    Negligible drying shrinkage due to low development of Heat of Hydration. Better workability because of higher blains specific surface.
  •     Maximum resistance to corrosive agents.
  •     Excellent resistance to seawater, moisture and acids due to better Sulphate and Chloride resistance.
  •     Best resistive power to Alkali – aggregate reaction.
  •     Water Cement Ratio. Due to Low Heat of Hydration water requirement in PSC is less resulting in better compactness ensuring higher strength.

Technical Advantages

Blended cement has a smoother texture than compared to OPC and the fly ash and slag yield better
compressive strength comparatively after the curing time is complete.

USES

  •     It is used in mass concrete structures like dams water treatment plants, marine and off-shore structures
  •     India is the 2nd largest producer of cement in the world!. Leading with an installed production capacity of approximately 480 million tones. •48% of the market by installed capacity. •47% in terms of production.
